The Importance of Teaching Life Skills to Teens We are mistaken to think that teens know anything in life although they might give us the impressions that they do, and this is proven by educational statistics. Whether at home or in school, teens barely get any teaching about life skills. Yes, it is true that children are given sufficient education on different subject matters which they can really be good at, but this alone is not enough to equip a child the essential life skills that will not make them rely on others to give them what they need to know, but help them to figure out for themselves what they want in life and how they can teach themselves to attain it. Street smart children are able to survive the world on their own. If children learn life skills, they would not have a difficult time succeeding in life. One thing that teens need to learn is about money and its value. Most teens are not taught the value of money since they simply ask their parents to buy them things that they want, and parents, on their part, simply give it to whatever the teens want without teaching them how one earns money, the value of saving money, working hard to have money, and waiting until money comes to buy what they want. Still under cost of money, what comes next is the cost it takes to carry out the task. Teens need to be taught about taxes, how to save money, how to budget and balance their accounts. In other words, they have to learn the skill of how to earn money, how to save, give and spend in a street-smart way. These basic skills concerning money are not being taught in our educations institutions these days. Besides many teens may not be able to find a side job in school or encourage to work part time since this is most often thought as something distasteful, or a step away from being fully involved in sports and school activities.
